Satellite-detected mudflow and rockflow extent in Rasuwa and Nuwakot Districts, Bagmati Province, Nepal (26-27 August 2026)

This dataset contains the cumulative satellite-detected mudflow and rockflow extent in Rasuwa and Nuwakot Districts, Bagmati Province, Nepal, following the glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) and associated flooding of 26 August 2026. UNOSAT derived the extent from Sentinel-2 imagery acquired on 27 August 2026 and PlanetScope imagery acquired on 26 August 2026.

Across the two districts an area of approximately 330 km² was analysed, within which an estimated 30 km² of land appears to be affected by floodwaters, mudflow and rockflow — about 230 km² analysed and 20 km² affected in Rasuwa District, and about 103 km² analysed and 10 km² affected in Nuwakot District. Based on WorldPop spatial demographic data, approximately 6,800 people are estimated to be exposed to or living near the affected areas.

This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).

Derived from UNOSAT products 4257 (Rasuwa District) and 4258 (Nuwakot District). GLIDE event number FL20260826NPL.
